Xiaomi is a prolific OEM. They have phones just about for everyone, from you the tech enthusiast to your grandma looking to binge cat videos on YouTube.

They also seem unafraid of cannibalizing their own product by releasing special types of smartphones that meld premium features with affordable pricing. Yep, we are talking about their Redmi K-line. This year, they are coming out with the much-awaited Redmi K30.

In this buyer’s guide, you’ll learn everything you need to know about the indisputable “flagship killer”. From specs, pricing, and availability, you’ll come out of this post decided whether or not you should buy the Redmi K30.

Redmi K30’s new features

Redmi K30 updates its predecessor’s nifty features. Here are some of the key features you should know about.

It has a faster (but sadly an LCD) screen

Thanks to OnePlus 7 Pro, a fast display is now the norm. Equipped with a display with 120Hz refresh rate, the animations and interactions that are made in the Redmi K30 should be buttery smooth.

This feature is absolutely wild, considering the phone’s price point. The drawback, of course, is that it is not an OLED display but an LCD.

The camera should be crazy good

Sporting a new Sony IMX686 sensor, the Redmi K30 is expected to perform at least decently well in photos and videos. The same sensor can be found in upcoming bona fide flagships like the OnePlus 8.

It has 5G support too

It wouldn’t be a 2020 phone without 5G support, innit? This just means that data and internet speeds are more reliable, faster, and overall kept up with the current times.

Redmi K30 pricing details

Redmi K30 Philippines: Price, specs, availability, and more!

The biggest selling point of the Redmi K30 is its price. So it wouldn’t make sense to have it priced any higher than a low-cost midrange phone.

Luckily, Xiaomi likes to keep the Redmi K-line’s reputation as bona fide “flagship killers”. Thus, the pricing for the Redmi K30 phones start at CNY 1599(~PHP 11.6k) and CNY 1999(~PHP 14.5k) for the base models of the 4G and 5G variants, respectively.

Redmi K30: What critics are saying

As of our first publish, hands-on first impression videos have dropped for the Redmi K30. We’re expecting reviews to drop soon, and we’ll update this section accordingly once they become available.

TechZG picked the phone’s features apart and ultimately decided that the phone is good value-for-money (as seen in the video embedded below). While Sami Tech Tips explicitly said in his brief hands-on video that the screen, sadly, isn’t all that impressive despite the faster refresh rate.

Redmi K30: Where to buy in the Philippines

Redmi K30 has yet to become available in the Philippines. Its predecessor, the Redmi K20, was notably unavailable in the country. We got, instead, the Xiaomi Mi 9T, which is essentially the international version of the device.

We expect the phone to drop on online stores, however, including Lazada and Shoppee.
