Apple wrapped this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2020) with big promises, chief among them is the improved overall experience of the ecosystem. That starts with iOS, which gets some cool new features with this update.
On this post, we’re breaking down some of the best iOS 14 best features we’re excited to try.

1. Custom home screens
You can now customize your iPhone’s home screen – well, sort of.
Widgets – which used to live on a hidden page to the left of the home page – can now be added to your home screen. Unlike the ones in Android, however, these snap to place to keep the design clean and simple.
You can also use the Smart Stack widget, which lets you ‘stack’ together a bunch of widgets that can interchange throughout the day.
There’s also a new page called App Library, which houses all of your apps neatly in different categories. You can also – finally – hide specific pages, giving you the ability to hide Apple’s default apps you never use anyway.
2. Better iMessage
iMessage is now a full-featured messaging app. With iOS 14, Apple is introducing threaded replies, mentions, and the ability to change the group photo on group messages. You can now pin conversations at the top of the list, too.
Oh, and if it matters, there’s a whole batch of new memoji to play around with.
3. App Clips
A feature that directly rivals Google’s Instant Apps, App Clips is Apple’s way of making experiences – both online and offline – more seamless.
App Clips let you interact with small parts of an app, even if you don’t have it installed on your iPhone. It has support for Apple Pay, so it’s sure to be a hit with merchants.
4. Powerful Maps features
Maps gets a handful of upgrades this year. The two most prominent are cycling mode and EV routing mode. The former guides you through bike lanes and the latter lets you find compatible charging stations for your electric car.
Maps has also added support for more countries. Go figure!
5. Picture in Picture
Apple has also introduced a Picture in Picture mode, which lets you continue to watch videos while using a different app. It’s a simple feature, but one that many people clamor for.
