Jessie and James are in Pokemon Go! You can now encounter the iconic Team Rocket duo from the Pokémon anime, and get the chance to fight them – with matching Team Rocket Motto and all. In this article, we’ll share with you the Jessie and James Pokemon Go counters, as well as the rewards for defeating them.
What Pokémon does Jessie and James Have?
Jessie will start with an Ekans, while James will start with a Koffing.
After that, it’s either Scyther, Sneasel, Bagon or Beldum (for both Jessie and James).
Jessie and James Pokémon Go Counters
- Ekans – Weak Against Ground and Psychic Types
- Koffing – Weak Against Ground and Psychic Types
- Scyther – Weak Against Electric, Flying, Fire, Ice, Rock Types
- Sneasel – Weak Against Bug, Fairy, Fighting, Fire, Rock, Steel Types
- Beldum – Weak Against Dark, Fire, Ghost, Ground Types
- Bagon – Weak Against Dragon, Fairy, Ice Types
In terms of strength, Jessie and James align more with the Team Go Rocket Grunts rather than the Leaders. So with the right Pokémon type, they’re relatively easy to defeat.
Jessie and James Pokémon Go Rewards
- Defeating Jessie will give you a chance to catch a Shadow Ekans
- Defeating James will give you a chance to catch a Shadow Koffing
So how do you encounter Jessie and James in Pokémon Go anyway?
How to Encounter Jessie and James in Pokémon Go
Jessie and James are a rare Team Rocket encounter. They’ll be hovering above you in hot air balloons, similar to other Team Go Rocket grunts. However, instead of the usual black balloon with the ominous “R”, Jessie and James’ balloon will be in the shape on Meowth’s head (similar to how it is in the anime! :D)
The balloon will cast a shadow so check above you when you see one. The best way to see Team Rocket balloons is to max your Zoom out to get a view of the area above you.
Do you need a Rocket Radar to Find Jessie and James?
The short answer is NO, you don’t need a Rocket Radard to find Jessie and James in Pokémon Go. This is because they’re not leaders like Arlo, Sierra, and Cliff.
That being said, you can encounter Jessie and James in a similar way to other Pokémon Go Team Rocket grunts. However, encountering them is incredibly rare – I’ve only encountered them once in the past 2 months.
You will encounter both Jessie and James in one balloon so you’ll have to defeat both of them. You’ll fight Jessie first, then James follows.
