How to trade Pokémon and add friends in Pokémon GO
You can now trade Pokémon and friend people in Pokémon GO.
Two major social features are rolling out in Pokémon GO with this week’s update, according to Niantic. Finally, players can connect with other players via friending and can exchange Pokémon via trading. The complete mechanics of both follow.
Friending in Pokémon GO comes with bonuses, chiefly battle boosters at Pokémon Gyms friends battle together.
The main thing about friending in Pokémon GO is, perhaps, the Friendship Level. It determines the bonuses and features you get with a fellow Pokémon GO player. At press time, there are four Friendship Levels: Good Friend, Great Friend, Ultra Friend and Best Friend, each coming with respective bonuses relative to the Level. Players can get gifts for Friends via Pokémon GO’s shop or Gym Battles to boost their Friendship Level. Friends also get the ability to trade Pokémon with one another.
Which brings me…
Trading in Pokémon GO works exactly like the mainline games, which has players physically close to one another to locally exchange their Pokémon. This means online trading will not be possible. What’s more, your Friendship Level with another Pokémon GO player will determine the amount of stardust it will take to successfully continue the trade.
